Next craft challenge?

In January I signed up to the 50 things in 2009 craft challenge which I achieved during the Summer. It was a nice feeling having something to work to, and also having a record kept of everything I made. I have fallen behind terribly on cataloguing everything and as of August I was at 105 makes. Not bad going really!

I’ve been humming and hawing over what to do for 2010 and I’ve decided I’m going to do a “Craft Neutral” year. What does this mean? Well in 2010 I can craft only using the supplies I already own. If I want or need to buy anything, I can only do that with the proceeds from crafty stuff I’ve managed to sell. Not only should this substantially decrease my stash but it should encourage me to pull the proverbial finger out and actually put some of my makes up for sale.

Of course this gives me a couple of months to buy in things ;)

So – who’s with me on the 2010 Craft Neutral challenge?

I’m in! 2009 has been basically that already for me!

  3. Livi Short October 19, 2009 11:45 am

    very tempted

Oh, I’m with you on this one!

It’s such a lovely idea and you’ll have more money and more room and will feel so good about it all. I know I don’t have the will-power or self restraint and would cry everytime I noticed my stash pile becoming smaller! Think I’ll sit this one out :-)

Fab idea, I aplaud you, but if i’m being totally honest, what about all those new ideas – I know i’m wrong wrong wrong, and I really don’t buy much (chance would be a fine thing) but a whole year? Could I do 6 months or does that make me a shallow copout? I’m all at 6’s and 7’s now – why did you haveto do this!!!!!

I really like this idea! Definately up for it :-)

Sorry for the random “newbie” comment, not sure what the etiquette is on such things!! I’m comfy on LJ but not so much with these formats. Sure I’ll learn!!

My addiction is always wanting to be fed, so I expect that even though this would be agreat idea for me, I will find it farrrrr toooo difficult!! But good on you for having a go!!

Good Luck – I will watch from the sidelines…I am trying to do christmas as much from Stash as possible, so apart from finishing some none present WIPs in the new year I should pretty much have destashed…

I think I will join you. I have far too much yarn hanging around that I haven’t done anything with and I keep buying more just because it’s pretty. I then use the new stuff and ignore the old. Not a good idea!

  11. PennyDog October 20, 2009 5:48 am

    Yep I can do this!

this sounds like a really good idea. im being drowned with craft stash here so a good session of using up stuff is in order!

Oh Vonnie, my resolution every year is to use up my stash – so why does it keep getting bigger!! When I started my blog in January I said I wasn’t going to buy books and magazines – that lasted about two days!!!! But I will try my best – I do like a challenge.

Uh-huh Vonnie. I am with you on being “Craft Neutral”. I have normally been, actually, except for fabrics, which are often brand new clothes gifted to me. Otherwise, I do very often “procure” my material from the thrift-shops, and work withbead-y stuff that has already been there for years :)
(Which reminds me, I should blog about it, really; The How’s and Where’s of Juanita Tortilla products.)
Superb idea, and I’m sure there will be more like-minded people who are eager to join in!

I source all my basic materials from nature and throwaways. does that count? My stash is limited as I can’t keep copious amountsof wood around. I only buy in the things like finishes, abrasives etc which I can’t really have a years supply of. If all this doesn’t discount me count me in. (I do have 10 years supply of wax polish that I got off Freecycle LOL)

This is a great idea, I’m definitely in! :)

I’m also in – I thought I’d already signed up for this. I’m looking forward to making a dent in my bead stash.
