My lovely friend Anna posted a link to this story today about a throwaway comment made by Sharon Stone about Meryl Streep and the relevance to modern women. I have to say that I’m really not one to pigeonhole myself into a label, indeed on first glance I thought, “Hmm, I’m half and half” but actually in reality I have to admit that I recognised a lot of myself in the description of the unmade bed stereotype.
According to the definition in the Times, the only boxes I didn’t check were: drinks red wine (I think red wine is vile. Actually, I think all wine is vile but I’m trying to train myself to drink white) and carries a large handbag (I don’t. I actually still lug around a massive backpack like the eternal student I crave to be). You wouldn’t believe it to look at me, but I’m pretty clued up on current fashions and styles yet I spend the vast majority of my life looking like I’ve just rolled out of bed – and not in that sexy, tousled Eliza Dushku way. More like a yeti. I do occasionally impulsively do my hair, sometimes I even put makeup on but that behaviour tends to be reserved for special occasions like Christmas.
So what about you? Are you an unmade bed or a pristine pillow?

I am definitely an Unmade Bed… apart from the fact I am scared of dogs…
I have a nest on my head! Dreads were my cunning ploy to avoid hair maintenance
Therefore, not just unmade bed but rolled around in bed with the duvet falling on the floor, I think
I made some headway in this by streamlining my wardrobe to stuff that all pretty much goes together and suits me. So on weekdays I live in boyfit jeans and longsleeve plain t-shirts. This way I never have to worry about anything matching.
It’s weird though, because I LOVE playing with clothes. Juno has those usborne doll dressing sticker books, and I can spend as long as her going through them and picking outfits (which is kind of sad, I think! but it’s akin to my love of colouring books) and when I was a kid my favourite ever thing was my fashion wheel
An unmade bed I am! Yes, I have a hair dryer but it only gets used regulary when the outside temp is below 0 so my hair doesn’t freeze to my head during the school run. I too only make up once, maybe twice a year (in-law’s at xmas). I live in my jeans and the cleanest t-shirt I can find on that morning. It’s ok though, I’m sure we have more fun than pristine pillows! xxx
The thing with clothes is that I love them & I follow the fashions, but today, as per most days, I’m in jeans (skinny today, ha ha!) a hoodie top & big thick socks as I can’t find my slippers.
It’s one of the few times, I’ve read an article about stereotypes & actually felt that I empathised with one of them. I felt a bit saddened for a few days reading a light hearted article in the same magazine about school run mum stereotypes & none of them at all fitted me & I’m a stay at home mother …
My bed is made this morning, as per usual though *G*
I think most days I’m in the unmade bed category – but I do sometimes make the effort to wear my ‘good clothes’ …. and sometimes I even put on makeup!!
I am an unmade bed too. I like my clothes to match, and I like sparkly accesories, but other than that, unless I am going out, i still use a backpack(which weighs a ton) i have bitten nails, and i wear jeans and a tshirt most days. I get up at 5, Id rather sleep for an extra half hour than look perfect.
Yep, I’m an unmade bed too!
Definately an unmade bed. Even on “smart” work days its seems! lol !
Another unmade bed here! I tick all the boxes apart from not making the bed – that is one thing I just have to do.
Great post btw
