Well, loyal blog readers, it’s getting closer to Christmas and since my blogging output has been woefully inadequate I have decided instead to do a giveaway of a gorgeous Namaste needle shell in Ringo.

So really, it’s only fair that I show my Christmas must-have. It’s from the wonderfully talented Simmy, author of the Echoes of a Dream blog. Simmy took an extended break from her blog this year and it’s been great to have her back, especially when she showcases her work. Her Waldorf-style dolls have always resonated with me and I think that every home should have one of her Angels which are available to buy from her Etsy store:

I’ll be back before Christmas with my gifted and received Secret Santa items, some knitting and maybe a recipe or two.

I should be doing something useful right now but I’m living in a plague house so I’m doing a bit of blog surfing between fits of coughing. good luck with the giveaway and with whatever christmas crafting you have left to do..
I have a lot of baking to do but not till I feel a little bit better… more cupcakes like the ones on my blog ( http://meridianariel.blogspot.com/2008/12/cupcake-snowman-recipe.html )
and H is desperate to make Reindeer Food (AKA luxury granola) http://meridianariel.blogspot.com/2007/12/reindeer-food.html
Must have: Home-made paper decorations; chains, angels (the concentric-circles kind), lanterns.
Recipe: Christmas breakfast: 1 cup oats, 2 cups water or milk or milk substitute, handful of raisins, cinnamon. Serve with cream and muscovado sugar. And a gallon of coffee.
(Or sherry trifle; sponge fingers covered on all six faces in raspberry jam, layered with fresh fruit until the bowl is almost full, fruit juice and sherry mix poured over, then hot custard poured over and left to set, then whipped cream. No decorations. Best eaten on the second day, so make two).
Must have for me is sprouts and chestnuts. Now either you can prepare them the hard way (cut crosses into the bottom and then boil before peeling) or you can buy them ready made (M and S) but num num num!
On the trifle front – black forest trifle. Get a can of (preferably pitted) black cherries, add to some blackcurrant jelly and leave to set. Top with some choc angel delight and cream/choc sprinkles. Looks amazing and it will not be left alone so no left overs (for more num add choc swiss roll and Kirsch to the base).
Loving the fact you have this blog *goes off to see if it is rss’d to LJ*
*also scampers off to yet more etsy goodness*
Hmmm… my must have Christmas item is a stocking. I’m on a strict budget this festive season – single mum, just bought a new car, credit crunch, yadda yadda yadda – but I have made sure my daughter and I both have lovely knitted stocking hanging on the fireplace. I have a feeling putting presents in them will stretch them rotten, but it’s worth it for the vintage festive look!
And a recipe… I made this carrot cake last night:

A welcome break from mince pies, but too tempting to eat the bowl of icing. Exercise self control or employ supervision…
My must-have is pajamas! You can’t possibly be expected to get dressed on Christmas day. I always get given new pajamas from one particular family member too, so tend to go from the pair I’ve worn overnight into a snuggly fresh new pair – slip on some fluffy slippers, wrap a warm blanket around me and ahh, bliss!
Must have for Xmas would have to be the lovely peace from the almost complete lack of traffic on the busy road at the end of the street. I usually don’t notice the slight hum, but I love the lack of it on the 25th.
This year I’d also like 2.5 year old who sleeps in her own bed, but logistically that’s not happening yet.
My must have Christmas item is a camera. It is the one time that we are all together!
For a recipe, you should try Spinach Pie! http://www.miftik.com/food/2004/03/09/spinach-pie/
My Christmas Essential? A walk in the hills – preferably in beautiful, frosty conditions. And then back home to a lovely dram. That’s really all I need for Christmas.
My Christmas must-have: my famiy, being with all of them. My mom passed away in August, and I am determined that our first Christmas without her be as happy as possible for my dad.
My Christmas essential is a good breakfast and the peace and quiet to enjoy it. Loch Fyne Smoked Salmon, bagels and cream cheese with coffee and OJ. A little bit of calm before the madness begins!
I don’t have many musthaves and I don’t cook (if you ever tasted my cooking you would know why…lol)
One musthave is a real Christmas Tree. My mum always had this awful fake tree that I really hated.
Another is, matching decorations on the tree. I’ve never been fond of dumping everything on the tree and like mine to have a theme
Traditional Christmas dinner. Some people have started having other things for Christmas dinner, but I really look forward to sitting down with my family and having traditional Christmas dinner, turkey, roast potatoes, sproats, chestnuts, stuffing, gravy etc and I feel lost without my Christmas pudding so we always buy one in at home incase we don’t have one at our family dinner.
Well my christmas must haves are my family and my greyhound (who is being joined by a new girl this year).D.D has just adopted one. So my red will have a friend this christmas. I love having all my family here and it is what really makes christmas. No recipes really to pass on as I am not a good cook and the whole family take a hand in it all. But I think perhaps this year it will be a very aromatic christmas as I have the dreaded flu, lost my voice and my wee granddaughter is going down with the same just now. So lots and lots of oil burners on the go….
Hope you have a good christmas and I am just finding my way around blogs. I have set up one but haven’t a clue how to include it. I am tandemsandy on Ravelry tho.
Well my sensible Christmas must have would be organisation to get my knitting done in time! But really Christmas isn’t really Christmas without my mother’s angel chimes (they look like this http://www.allthingsbright.com/angelchimes.html) on the table, tinging furiously.
I have found your blog via ravelry- lots of lovely things! Happy Christmas
